Vacation!
So I posted about our Staycation in May, but in June we got to go on a vacation. We decided to go home for a visit to Oregon! We had a blast.
The puppies of course got to come with us. They were considered a “Carry on” item. We got them a carrier a couple of months ago and have been working on keeping them in there for a few hours every couple of days. They did pretty well. They weren’t huge fans of take off and landings but we figured it probably bothered their ears a bit and other than that they did great.
The first day that we got to Oregon we decided to go camping at the coast. The weather didn’t look too optimistic on our little weather channel app but when we got there it was beautiful so we decided to put up the tent and try it. It was wonderful until Daniel’s family got into Newport and then it started POURING. Needless to say, we ended up staying in a motel which we were ok with. We just wanted to see the Oregon Beaches. Florida may have “the best beaches in the world” but I will take an Oregon beach anytime. They are much more pet friendly.
The second day on the coast we went to Lincoln City and did some shopping and had some lunch at Mo’s and then headed back to Lebanon. We spent a couple of days hanging around Lebanon. We got to see some extended family and eat at some of our favorite Lebanon restaurants. This was also the first time we got to meet my brother’s new girlfriend which was fun. After that it was time for my Dad to head back to work and then we headed up to Portland for another overnight camping trip. This time it was a backpacking trip. We hiked up to Mirror Lake and hung out with a bunch of our friends for the day. Some of them had to head back to town around four but Daniel and I, and our friends Monica and Jeff hiked up to the top of Tom Dick and Harry Mountain for sunset. Well almost sunset. Monica and I headed back down to the campsite a little before so that we wouldn’t have to walk through the snow in the dark. Thank goodness we did because the Dachshunds were COLD and we ended up having to carry them through most of the snow because they were getting too cold. But once we got back to the campsite they dove into the sleeping bag, warmed up, and never made a sound because they were so tired.
The view up there is GORGEOUS. The hike wasn’t too bad. Daniel and I have definitely gotten used to flat Florida though. Hahaha.
The next day, we hiked back down to the cars and headed back to the city for the day. We ran some errands and then got to have some DELICIOUS sushi at Saburo’s and then some delicious tots at McMenamin’s with my brother and some nursing buddies. After that it was back to Lebanon for a little down time for a couple of days. One of which was occupied by a trip up to Woodburn for some more shopping (we had to take advantage of no sales tax while we were here). After that it was BBQ with Dan’s family and then back to Lebanon for some packing. 😦
Thursday was the last full day that we were in Oregon and after a DELICIOUS breakfast and some great time spent hanging out with Robyn and Tyler, we headed back to the coast to spend the day with Heather, Johnny, and their adorable son Dustin. We spent the day in Cannon Beach. We walked the beach for a couple of hours and then went and checked out their downtown area. Here there was a bunch of galleries and shops and of course we had to grab some Tillamook ice cream while we were there. Then it was back to Portland to crash at their house and then up early to catch our flight the next morning. After that it was back to Florida and back to work. We had an incredible time and we miss everyone already. We can’t wait to go back home for another visit!

This post made me a little homesick for Oregon! I haven’t been back in about 4 years!
Yea. We are more home sick now that we have gone back for a visit and were reminded of what we are missing!
